How Elections Work
Everything you need to know to join, vote, or run for office in an MFAAA election.

Visit the platform
Go to the MFAAA platform and click "Register" in the navigation bar to begin your membership application.
RegisterCreate your account
Enter your full name, email address, and phone number. You will receive a one-time code (OTP) on your phone to verify your identity.

Complete your alumni profile
All fields requiredFill in your admission number, graduation year, region, and upload a clear profile photo. All required fields must be completed before submission.

Submit your profile
Once all fields are complete, submit your profile. It will enter a review queue for the AEC to verify your alumni status.
AEC verification
AEC ReviewThe AEC verifies your details against official alumni records. This typically takes up to 2 working days. You do not need to do anything during this period.
Approval notification
You will receive an email confirming whether your profile has been approved or if any corrections are needed.
You are now a verified Alumni Member
With an approved profile, you can access your member dashboard, register to vote in elections, and apply for leadership positions.

Voter registration opens
When the AEC opens voter registration for an active election, a "Register to Vote" button appears on the Elections page. Registration has a specific open and close date - do not miss the window.

Click the "Register to Vote" button on the Elections page. You are instantly added to the electoral roll for that election. Each election has its own voter roll.
Receive your voter secret
Check your emailAfter registering, a unique voter secret code is sent to your registered email address. This code is your ballot authentication - keep it safe and do not share it.

Wait for voting day
Voting opens on a specific date and time set by the AEC. The Elections page shows the exact dates. A "Vote Now" button appears when voting is active.

On voting day, go to the Elections page and click "Vote Now" next to the election you are registered for.

Voter secret requiredYou will be asked to enter the voter secret code from your email. This authenticates your ballot and ensures only registered voters can cast a vote.

Cast your vote
Select your preferred candidate for each open position and submit your ballot. You can only vote once. Review your selections carefully before submitting.
Done
You receive a vote confirmation on screen. Results are published by the AEC after the voting window closes.

Nominations period opens
The AEC sets a nominations window for each election. When nominations are open, an "Apply for Position" button appears on the Elections page.

Select the specific role you wish to contest from the available positions listed by the AEC. Read the eligibility requirements for each position carefully.
Complete the candidacy form
All fields requiredFill in your qualifications, a vision statement for the position, and upload a clear candidate photo. All required fields must be completed before submission.

Submit your candidacy
Submit your completed candidacy application. The AEC will review it within the nominations window. You will receive an email once a decision is made.
AEC review
AEC ReviewThe AEC reviews all candidacy applications for completeness and eligibility. If additional information is needed, you will be contacted by email.
Candidacy approved
If approved, your candidate profile is published on the public candidates page. Registered voters can view your profile and vision statement.
Election day
Registered voters cast their ballots during the voting window. Results are published by the AEC once voting closes. Elected candidates are notified directly.
